During Homecoming, the Skiatook Bulldogs managed to hold off a Glenpool Warrior comeback when senior Gavin Jackson scored 12 points in under 2 minutes to close the third. The 12-0 run was just what the team needed and just when they needed it. They rode the run to a double digit lead—a lead they kept until the final horn sounded, going on to win 71-56. Skiatook started out the game well. Casen Lester drove hard to the rim and was fouled. The bucket dropped and he converted the and-one at the free throw line. On the next possession, Jayden Garner scored on a put back, and Reese Neil scored two layups—one of which was an and-one—and Garner had back-to-back layups immediately after. The scoring flurry put Skiatook up 14-5 less than four minutes into the game. The Warriors rallied, finally managing to put up some points after an icy start. They worked their way back into the game, climbing back to an 18-11 deficit, scores from Braiden Blackwell and Neil helped Skiatook keep a lead. The quarter ended with Skiatook up 24-13. The second quarter saw Skiatook not looking quite as hot as they came out of the gate. They only scored 3 points in the first four minutes as Glenpool quickly cut the deficit to only 4. Skiatook struggled with fouls, which put Glenpool on the line for multiple sets of free throws in the bonus. Braiden Blackwell and Gavin Jackson both hit three points late in the second, but Glenpool continued scoring at a strong pace to keep the game close. Skiatook was only up 35-31 when the homecoming festivities began to take place. At halftime, both Neil and Garner had 10 points and Jackson had 7 to help pace the team. During halftime, Kaylie Garner—sister of Jayden Garner and daughter of the Journal’s own Amy Garner— was crowned homecoming queen. Congrats Kaylie! After the long break at halftime, the Bulldogs struggled to shake off the rust. Glenpool thundered back, the Warriors retaking their first lead of the game, 39-35. Things were beginning to look shaky for the Bulldogs. That’s when Jackson lost his mind. Three possessions in a row, he buried threes from the corners. He followed up the shooting frenzy with an and-one off a rebound, and the free-throw gave him his 12th point in less than two minutes. Jackson shot the Bulldogs back into the lead, and it couldn’t have been at a better time. Skiatook held on to win 71-56, with Jackson leading the way scoring with 21, 18 from Garner, and 14 from Neil.
