Fueled by three runs in the fourth inning, the Skiatook Bulldogs defeated the Memorial Chargers 6-3 in Skiatook on March 13th, 2018. The matchup came following Skiatook beating the Chargers 8-6 at Memorial on the previous night. After Skiatook held strong in the top of the first, Broc Bowman took a big swing and dropped a double in between the first baseman and right fielder. Bowman eventually scored, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead at the end of the first. With Caden Ray on the mound, the Skiatook defense stood strong once again for two more innings, and Skiatook extended the lead in the bottom of the third when Mason Johnson scored on an RBI for Korey Miller. The top of the fourth brought trouble for the Bulldogs. Memorial put two people on base with no outs, and an overthrown ball that rolled to center field let Memorial score an early run. However, things didn’t go as far south as they could have. The Bulldogs escaped the inning when Johnson came up with another big play: the shortstop stretched out to field a ground ball headed for left field. He threw across his body to first, beating the runner out and ending the inning. Things began looking up for the Bulldogs when Skiatook had two people on base in the bottom of the fourth and a bunt by Kelton Boyett and a few errors by the Chargers turned into a triple and sent in both runners in for the score. A wild pitch allowed Boyett to score on the very next play, extending Skiatook’s lead to 5-1 before the Chargers finally managed to get them off the field. In the top of the 5th, Memorial made Skiatook fans uneasy. The Chargers had the bases loaded when Skiatook finally managed to secure a much-needed third out and end Memorial’s hot-hitting streak. Skiatook continued to apply pressure, getting a run from Matt Sanchez on another errant pitch, ending the 5th inning with a 6-1 lead in favor of the Bulldogs. There was no scoring from the Bulldogs through the last 2 innings, and the Chargers only managed one run, so Skiatook claimed a decisive 6-2 victory.
