Larger than ever
Skiatook-Collinsville football games have proven meaningful and the 96th renewal at Collinsville on Oct. 26 may be the most important yet.

It could decide the District 5A-4 championship. The teams are rated top contenders for the crown in a tight preseason coaches’ poll.

Skiatook received four first-place votes to Collinsville’s three and is favored over the Cardinals by a single point (43-42) in the overall tally.

Collinsville defeated Skiatook in the 2015 semifinals and the fierce Highway 20 rivals took turns eliminating one another from playoff contention the past two years.

Getting up to speed
Pryor coach Jeramy Branchcomb hired offensive coordinator Kenny Davis from nearby Adair and hopes Davis can hasten the pace of the Tigers’ no-huddle, spread offense.

Branchcomb wants to get the ball snapped a third more often than last year. The offense will be similar, but with more pass-run options for new quarterback Tanner Gilstrap.

On the attack
Claremore has a flock of athletes at the skill positions to go with new quarterback Charlie Murdock. Dylan Kedzior caught TD passes in his first seven games last season and totaled 11 on the season, along with 1,002 receiving yards.

Coleman Parsons and Jace Hightower combined for more than 1,151 rushing yards and 12 TDs.

Players to watch
Grayson Boomer, Collinsville, TE, 6-5, 230, Sr.: Slowed by injuries last year, the OSU commit is rated the nation’s No. 8 tight end by 247sports.com.

Jayden Garner, WR/DB, Skiatook, WR/DB, 6-1, 175, Jr: Averaged 12.1 yards per rush and scored 17 TDs, spurring Bulldogs’ semifinal playoff run.

Quentin Skinner, Claremore, DB (6-3, 160, Jr.): The son of former eight-man football great Reggie Skinner, intercepted eight passes as a sophomore.
