CLAREMORE — There were two volleyball matches involving Rogers County teams which were also matches between ranked opponents.

Claremore, ranked No. 7 in the initial 5A poll, hostecd No. 11 Skiatook Tuesday night, and lost a five-set thriller to the visitors.

Also, No. 9 Catoosa fell to No. 5 Berryhill 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 28-26.

Claremore and Skiatook both worked out their jitters early on. Skiatook jumped out for the first four points and Claremore responded ... and then it was back and forth all night.

Claremore won the opener in a tight 25-22 win. Skiatook answered with a 25-22 win.

Claremore took the fourth 25-22, and Skiatook won game four 28-26. The Bulldogs were able to upset the Zebras in the fifth, 15-11.

Madison Dugan was a monster at the net Tuesday. The Claremore hitter had 16 kills, and also had 24 digs in the match. Hailey Charles and Maddie Hardage each had eight kills and combined for seven blocks.

Hardage also had 24 digs. Brooke Jones had five kills, four aces and 12 digs. Riley Renfroe and Hailey Grant combined for 11 kills and Briley Penny and Dani Meisinger combined for 25 digs.

This is the third straight regular season match in which the Lady Zebras came up short in five sets.

On Aug. 9, Claremore lost in five at Coweta.

On Aug. 16, Claremore lost in five to No. 1 (3A) Lincoln Christian.
