Despite a determined defense, Skiatook lost to Claremore in overtime on Thursday, October 18.

The first quarter of the game was scoreless with a turnover for each team. Jaxon Dohn intercepted ball with six minutes left in the first half and the bulldogs landed the first score of the game with a catch by Cash Cooper with just over four minutes in the half. They moved into scoring position again, but a missed field goal put the score at 7-0 with the Bulldogs leading at the half.

The third quarter ended with an interception by Josh Taylor by Claremore answered with an interception by a defensive lineman who was brought down by Cody Evans after a long run giving Claremore great field position. Claremore was able to hit the end zone and bring the score to a 7-7 tie.

A short kick from Claremore to start the fourth quarter gave them great field position, but Skiatook’s defense was able to keep the Zebras away from touchdown range and the Zebras missed a field goal attempt with three seconds of regulation play left.


The teams headed into overtime at 7-7 with the Bulldogs first on offence. A touchdown by Jayden Garner took the Bulldogs up 14-7. The Zebras answered with a touchdown of their own in one play tying the score back up at 14.

The Zebras were on offence first in the second round of overtime play and the defensive line for Skiatook was able to push the Zebra’s back from the end zone. Claremore was able to score a field goal bringing the score to 17-14 with the Zebras in the lead.

The Bulldogs drove towards the end zone, but questionable call by the referees and a penalty moved the Bulldogs back to field goal range for the final play of the game. Derek Eckenfels took the field, but a wide kick ended the game with the Zebras winning 17-14.

The Bulldogs face Collinsville next Friday, October 26 in Collinsville at 7 p.m.
