TULSA--The Class 5A No. 5 Skiatook Bulldogs (6-1, 3-1 District 5A-4) claimed another big district victory against the unranked Will Rogers Ropers (0-6) on the road on Friday, 35-0. Skiatook's defense was smothering in recording the shutout. In the first half, the longest play Skiatook allowed was seven yards, while Will Rogers only picked up one first down as Skiatook built a 35-0 halftime lead that eventually would become the final score. The Bulldogs gave Will Rogers a heavy dose of the run game, with all five touchdowns coming on the ground. Rogers limited Skiatook's offense early. The Ropers kept the Bulldogs scoreless on their first two drives, but when the Ropers fumbled Skiatook’s second punt and the Bulldogs recovered, Jaxson Dohn was set up for a touchdown run from 19 yards out. Skiatook’s first score seemed to break the Ropers. Despite getting two stops early, Rogers allowed rushing touchdowns on the next five drives. Korbin McLaughlin got a piece of the action on the next drive for Skiatook, scoring from 40-yards out early in the second quarter. The Bulldogs fourth score came on some confusion — a touchdown coming after most the players on both teams thought the play was dead — and McLaughlin scored his second touchdown of the first half from 1 yard out with 1:10 left on the clock. Skiatook took a 35-0 lead into halftime following a Josh Taylor interception, who made a great play on a long-ball Rogers let fly. The second half was full of lots of experience for Skiatook, but no scoring for either team. The big first-half advantage opened up playing time for the younger and more inexperienced Bulldogs. Next week the Bulldogs host Claremore in a matchup against two powerhouses from District 5A-4.
