Just like the Bulldogs, the Lady Bulldogs played in the Skiatook Invitational and had a chance to matchup against some tough competition en route to a fifth-place game on Saturday, January 12th. In the first round, a matchup against Mustang, Skiatook fell 58-32 against one of the best teams in the state, despite ten points from Hanna Dysart and 6 from Taylor Hight. The second round put the Lady Bulldogs in a matchup against the Owasso Rams, a 6A team, and the girls did not back down. In fact, Skiatook beat the Rams by double digits, winning 39-26. The Lady Bulldogs played stellar defense in the first quarter, not allowing Owasso to score a single point. Meanwhile, Skiatook scored ten and set the tempo for the rest of the game. The big win was fueled by a team effort, but Arionne Sletto helped pace the team with 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. Martina Aeschliman led the team in scoring with 13 and added 2 boards, and Rylee Massey only had 3 points but played a fantastic all-around game with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. The win sent Skiatook to the fifth place game at 1:00 on Saturday, where they matched up against Bishop Kelley. Against the Comets, Skiatook started out slow, only scoring 4 points in the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs trailed 20-14 at the half, and were slightly outscored throughout the rest of the game, losing 43-36. Senior Hanna Dysart had a good game against Kelley, scoring 11 points with 2 assists before collecting her fifth foul. Emma Anderson also played well, scoring 7 points to go with 5 rebounds to lead the team. The girls gained some great experience in the tournament, playing lots of stiff competition, and showed how dangerous they can be with a win over Owasso.
