On January 22nd the Skiatook Bulldogs hosted the defending State Champions Collinsville Cardinals.

As always with the Bulldogs and Cardinals it’s much more than just a dual, it’s Highway 20 bragging rights for a year. The Bulldogs came in to the night with a 9-0 dual record and the Cardinals looked to knock off that zero and replace it with a one on the right side of the Bulldogs record.

The dual started off really slow for the Bulldogs as Collinsville lower weights are extremely good. After seven weights Skiatook only won one of those and was losing the dual 30 to 3. In order for Skiatook to make a comeback the upper weights would have to win and win big is what they did.

Out of the next seven matches Skiatook had five pins, two close decision wins and came away with a 39 to 31 dual win. With that win the Bulldogs remained undefeated in duals and claimed Highway 20 bragging rights for another year.

At 106 pounds Skiatook’s Kyle Bowman lost by fall to Cameron Steed. Skiatook forfeited to Jordan Williams at 113 pounds. At 120 pounds the Bulldogs Trey Bowman lost a tough twelve to five decision to Rocky Stephens.

Josh Taylor at 126 pounds for the Bulldogs wrestled Jordon Cullors for the Cardinals. Taylor was able to get a much needed seven to five decision making the dual score 15 to 3 in favor of Collinsville.

Skiatook forfeited the 132 pound match and sent Cody Francis out to wrestle Caleb Tanner at 138 pounds. Francis wrestled all three periods with Tanner but came up a little short losing twelve to zero. BK Seago at 145 pounds lost by fall to Conner Henson making the dual score 31 to 3.

At 152 pounds the Cardinals forfeited to Tony Johnson and at 160 pounds they forfeited to Cougar Andersen making the dual score 31 to 15.

The Bulldogs started to go to work on the Collinsville lead as Richie Lee was able to pin Brayden Gilkey in the second period at 170 pounds and Hunter Hall at 182 pounds pinned Hayden Knight in the third period.

At 195 pounds Alex Johnson wrestled Gabe Lyons. The two grapplers wrestled all three periods but it would be the Bulldogs that would get a six to one decision over the Cardinal.

With that win the Bulldogs pulled within one point making the dual score 31 to 30 still in favor of the Cardinals. The 220 pound match was the most exciting match of the night not only because the Bulldogs could take the lead with a win but the Cardinals could seal the win with a pin.

Devin Wilson stepped out on the mat and went nose to nose with Zach Morris for the Cardinals. After the first two periods Wilson was winning one to zero and after three periods the score was tied three to three. The two grapplers went in to the third overtime period and gave all they had but it was the young mighty Bulldog that would get the win with a five to four decision and give Skiatook its first lead of the night making the dual score 33 to 31.

Korbin McLaughlin at heavy weight for Skiatook was not going to be outdone on Senior night by the young Freshman. McLaughlin wasted no time and pinned Kaden Jones just twenty-eight seconds in to the first period and sealed the victory for the Bulldogs making the dual score 39 to 31.

The Bulldogs remain undefeated with a 10-0 dual record.
