Tahlequah added its fifth consecutive win and reached the .500 mark in District 5A-3 play with a 14-4 home win over Skiatook Tuesday.

It was the second win in as many days against Skiatook and the Tigers, now 8-10 overall and 4-4 in district games, won both in run-rule results. They blanked the Bulldogs, 10-0, Monday in Skiatook behind Seth Stacey’s complete-game shutout.

Tahlequah got busy right away in Tuesday’s win as it plated nine runs in the opening frame after Skiatook opened with a 1-0 lead in its half.

Stacey singled to center field to put the Tigers in front for good when he brought home Tate Christian and Goodnight. Christian led off with a single to left and would advance to third base on an error, and Goodnight followed with a walk and stole second base to set the table for Stacey.

Tahlequah kept adding on. Caleb Davis and Tanner Christian both walked with the bases loaded, and Shaw Thornton scored when Tyler Joice reached on an error to extend Tahlequah’s lead to 5-1, Goodnight pushed the lead to six runs with a two-run single to right, and Tanner Christian and Goodnight both crossed home plate on an error to make it 9-1.

Stacey and Nelijah Tatum came up big in the third inning with back-to-back two-out hits to stretch the margin to 11-1. Stacey doubled to right to bring in Tate Christian, and Tatum added an RBI single to left to score Stacey.

After the Bulldogs answered with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, Tahlequah completed the run rule with a three-run fifth. Tanner Christian came through with a two-run single to left, knocking in Stacey and Tatum. Stacey led off the inning with a triple to right field.

The 14 runs were two off a season high for the Tigers. It was also the fourth straight game they have scored 10 runs or better.

Tahlequah finished with 10 hits and was led by Stacey’s 3-for-4 performance. Stacey also drove in a team-high three runs. Kooper McAlvain had the other extra-base hit on a double, and eight of the nine batters in the lineup had at least one hit.

Tanner Christian gave the Tigers a much-needed full five innings on the mound. Tahlequah didn’t use a relief pitcher in its two outings against Skiatook. Christian allowed three earned runs on six hits and recorded five strikeouts while issuing only one walk.

Tahlequah, who is now fourth in the 5A-3 standings behind Pryor (22-3, 10-0), Coweta (16-3, 9-0), and Claremore (9-7, 5-2), will take on Tulsa Edison Thursday at noon in the ... Click here to read full article
