SKIATOOK — Hilldale’s Savannah Jorgenson had every reason to be impressed with Skiatook’s defense Wednesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs limited the Lady Hornets’ senior forward to just three shots on goal — including one in the second half — in notching the 2-0 second-round victory at Skiatook’s Exchange Bank at Hap Dunlap Field.

Jorgenson said the Lady Bulldogs “man-marked” her the whole game, or played a man-to-man defense to limit her.

“They were a strong team. They were holding us tight,” she said. “When they’re doing it well, it can be hard to get around. We’ve seen that kind of defense before.

“This is pretty sad. It’s my last game. I’m not going to play college soccer. I’m happy and blessed to be able to play for Hilldale.”

Hilldale coach Conner Schwab was impressed with Skiatook’s defense, which helped end his team’s season at 11-6.

“They also man-marked Bella (McWilliams) and sometimes were doubling up on Savannah,” he said. “Their defense did a good job at winning ball out of the air. Savannah’s been a big talent for us so everybody knows who she is. She was marked well.”

Skiatook, the state runner-up a season ago, advances to the third round of the playoffs against Regent Prep. The Lady Bulldogs won their 10th straight game by eliminating the Lady Hornets.

Hanna Thompson, Skiatook’s senior captain and leading scorer, had both goals. They came in the second half with 13:29 and 2:17 remaining. She had five shots on goal in the second half alone.

“Hilldale was a tough team,” said the Ouachita Baptist University signee. “Coming out, I was nervous as we watched film on them and they looked so good on film. They played hard and never gave up. They’re a good team.”

Both of Thompson’s goals found the left corner of the net.
