SKIATOOK — When Skiatook beat East Central 49-27 on Friday, the Bulldogs' Shae Garner was once again the story of the game.
He had five combined touchdowns, had more than 200 yards receiving and also passed and rushed for scores.
The game was also a breakout performance for sophomore quarterback Cody Evans, who threw for 300 yards and four touchdowns, and junior running back TK Wilkerson, who rushed for more than 100 yards.
It wasn’t until a flurry of three second half scores from Garner on three consecutive possessions that Skiatook managed to break the game open.
After a scoreless first quarter, 20 points were scored in the first 50 seconds of the second quarter as East Central jumped out to a 13-7 lead.
After a Garner touchdown reception from Evans tied the game at 7, East Central answered by returning the ensuing kickoff for a TD.
On the next drive, Skiatook took its first lead of the game with a trick play — Shae Garner caught a screen pass before throwing a bomb to junior Dylan Davis in the end zone on a fourth down.
Skiatook finally seemed to find some traction. The defense forced a three-and-out before orchestrating another scoring drive. Wilkerson was the catalyst, rumbling for more than 60 yards on seven carries and scoring from 19 yards out.
Evans hit Garner on a 51-yard touchdown in the third quarter to give his team a 35-27 lead, and after a sto,p the duo did the same thing from 30 yards to finally give Skiatook some breathing room.
Evans threw his fourth and final touchdown of the night to Davis.
"I could not have done it without my offensive line and receivers," Davis said. "I owe it all to them.”
The Bulldogs face Tahlequah next week.
