SKIATOOK — The tougher the situation, the more cool and calm Seth Boomer looked. Third-and-long? No problem.

Boomer, who has committed to play football for the University of Tulsa, completed 20 of 24 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown Friday night to lead No. 6 Collinsville to a 24-10 victory over host Skiatook. The loss kept Skiatook from a District 5A-4 playoff berth.

Boomer completed several long third-down situations, including a final one with 1:32 remaining that put Collinsville over the hump.

Facing third-and-16 from the Skiatook 43-yard line, and with Skiatook having no timeouts left, the Cardinals forsook the time-eating handoff and went long. Boomer threw a perfect pass to Walker Roberts for the touchdown.

“We had been eyeing that play the whole game,” Boomer said. “We were trying to trap them into it a little bit, and they started running man coverage, so it was the perfect opportunity to run it and we capitalized.”

Malcom Tillman and Dylan Russell both topped the 100-yard mark in rushing for the Cardinals. Tillman gained 122 yards on 21 carries, and Russell had 111 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.

Collinsville had extended a 7-0 halftime lead to 14-0 on Dylan Russell’s second tackle-breaking touchdown run of the game, this time on a 10-yard run.

But Skiatook came right back with a 74-yard bomb from Cody Evans to Shae Garner to narrow the margin to 14-7.

A 23-yard field goal by Seth Weiser extended the lead to 17-7, but Skiatook answered with a 20-yard field goal by Derek Eckenfels midway through the fourth quarter.

Collinsville (8-2, 6-1) dominated the first half but still only took a 7-0 lead into halftime.

Linebacker Levi Draper, a University of Oklahoma commit, led the Cardinals defense and contributed on an offense that had advantages in first downs of 15-3, outgained the Bulldogs 230 yards to 58 and had a 40-15 edge in plays in the half.

The only first-half score was when the Cardinals scored on the last play of the first quarter. Dylan Russell ran up the middle through tackles for an 11-yard TD run.

The most memorable play of the first half came early in the second quarter when Boomer threw deep to a double-covered Draper on third-and-34. The result was a terrific throw and catch for a 37-yard gain and a first down.

Skiatook (5-5, 3-4) was able to hang close due to a bend-but-don’t-break defense that sacked Boomer four times in the first half, despite Boomer completing 12 of 15 passes for 107 yards in the first two quarters.

“It’s a big game. It’s Highway 20, so it’s going to be a tough game any time,” Boomer said. “They are a much improved team from earlier in the year.”
